Nothing More Expensive

Bobby Lee tells this story.

Who's that? Bruce's cousin?

Bobby is a standup comedian and podcaster.

He tells this story about driving around in his Hyundai when he notices the low fuel light blinking.

Naturally, he stops to fill up at the nearest gas station.

And as he's pulling up, he decides to reward himself.

With an energy drink.

So he goes in the station and grabs the drink and heads to the counter.

There, a young Eastern European lady is standing alone, working.

She looks miserable.

Shackled.

"Hello, I just want this drink, please."

She takes his drink and starts to ring it up.

She then looks at him, smirks and asks, "What do you do for a living?"

Bobby responds, "I'm a podcaster."

"I don't know what that means. Is that radio?"

"Oh, no, it's online."

"Oh."

A few seconds go by, and Bobby's curiosity gets the best of him:

"Why do you ask?"

The cashier looks up, pauses, and says,

"You look free."

Bobby explains a weight lifted off his shoulders and he just started to weep a little.

I don't know if you can take a comedian's stories.

I know you can't take their jokes.

But I think, I think, stories are fair game.

Besides, I'm not saying it happened to me.

I'm just passing it along.

Because I don't think there are many compliments finer than that.
