Up Down Up Down Up

We all want a life that goes straight up.

Or, along a lifeline, up and to the right.

Like a ramp.

At the apex, you jump.

Into the ether.

Into the other side of finite.

But really, a straight line constantly going up is just a chart in a textbook.

The luckiest we can get in reality is one that goes up more often than down.

The ups make up for the downs.

If you've lived a long enough lifeline, you are fortunate by that metric alone.

But you also know something about these charts, in yourself and others.

They don't make an emoji for my lifeline.

They couldn't fit the ups and downs in that sucker.

Too many pixels required.

Would look like a WWW.

This is no pity party, though.

I don't throw those.

Every down has been instructive, even and especially the destructive.

And every up has been cautionary, even in jubilance.

Blessings come in all forms.

May your life be a bunch of Ws.

And may they get bigger as you grow.
