'Til The Smoke Clears Out

I've talked before about Kintsugi.

Beauty in the broken.

This idea, or rather art, where you take something broken (like pottery or you) and turn it into something more beautiful.

In the pottery's case this is done by gluing it back together with glue made with gold.

Feature the scars.

Don't hide them.

I don't know how we fix you.

I got gold glue here somewhere.

It's a wonderful idea.

One I resonate with.

But I recently learned of another.

Antifragile.

It's the worst name for the best idea I've heard in a long time.

The cursed double negative.

This idea that not only do you recover, better than ever, from what breaks you.

But that you flourish in the chaos.

During it.

That you prosper in the sheet.

"Were you in the sheet?"

"Yeah. I was in the sheet."

It reminds me of Rudy's poem:

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you.

Ooh, that one's good.

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same.

Man, that might be even better.

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, and stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools.

This is some of the best stuff.

I think Kippy had it.

The right idea.

Mindset.

I keep thinking of Hulk and Wolverine.

Stronger, strongest, in the fight.

During the fight.

Don't.

Just.

Survive.

Mother mother.

Win.

Force your heart, nerve, and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone.

There are stories of men fighting wars who have had parts of their heads gone and yet, impossibly, still continue to fight.

They didn't know they were deed.

Because they simply did not allow it.

The fight must go on.

The fighter must, too.

Now, I hope you aren't at war.

Cabeza intact.

But there's no more time for the pity party you've been throwing.

It's time for a different kind of party.

Be that mother motherin' life form they find on some faraway (thought lifeless) planet.

How in the world is this thing still alive?

Hulk smash.

Nate, hit me.

🎤

Til the roof comes off,

Til the lights go out

Til my leg give out

Can't shut my mouth.

...

I'ma rip this sheet

Til my bone collapse.

🦴

At your best, when the roof comes off.

At your best, when the lights go out.

At your best, when your leg (singular) give out.

Rip this sheet.

At your best, when the bone collapse.

Snikt.
