Sometimes 4 GB > 1 TB

Today, I want to talk about thumb drives.

You know, usb drives.

Flash drives.

The little rectangles.

Now I got me some fancy ones.

1TB.

512s.

Got 'em before the price jack.

Which I count as a huge win for some reason.

Got 'em.

But here's the thing.

They kinda sook.

Slow.

Temperamental.

Unreliable.

They look cool.

Fancy.

Fidgety.

I flip one way it's usb a, I flip the other and it's usb c!

But they sook.

Now, lately I've been reaching for a 4 gb dinosaur I've had for 20 years.

Why?

Because it works every friggin' time.

Because it's fast.

In. Out. In. Out.

Bada bing.

Bada boom.

Done.

Of course, the storage could be an issue but it's not for me.

Just a way to go from A to B to C.

It's not all function, either.

It's pretty, too.

Made of titanium.

Looks brand new.

Apparently, the way they make thumb drives today means they won't last nearly as long as these old ones.

Ain't that something?

We're very much in a stage where old tech can be better than what's new.

At least in some ways.

Like an old V8 engine.

Sheety gas mileage.

But it'll go forever.

Like my 4 gb thumb drive.

And maybe it's because I'm old(ish).

A forward seeing but nostalgic some gun.

Or maybe, just maybe, we really used to do it better.

When you pay up, you expect things to work at a higher commensurate level.

We all know that just ain't always so.

To old(ish) tech.

Still running like new.

Heaven yeah.

But all that can change.

In a flash.
