Oh, This Is A Good Movie
One of my favorite books talks about how, if you were watching a movie about a guy who wants a Volvo, and at the end he gets the Volvo, you wouldn't stand and cheer and whoop when the credits rolled.
Now, first off, I gotta say, a Volvo is a dang fine automobile.
It was the first family car I can remember.
Till some drunk hit us coming down hill.
But the Volvo protected all of us.
At the expense of itself.
Good Volvo, goodbye.
The point though, is that you shouldn't want to watch other people's movies.
I don't mean the kinds in their attic.
I mean, if you made a movie about you, would you watch it?
This sheet longer than Lord of the Rings.
How long is this bathroom scene?
Is it about a person who wants a Volvo and gets one at the end?
And if so, I stand in ovation.
Why?
Because you shouldn't live your life for people who sit, watch, and eat oversized and overpriced junk food whilst judging you on your life choices.
"Wouldn't have picked blue."
Movies require high drama.
Suffering.
Good and evil.
But most, most, have a happy ending.
If that's a scene where you jump in front of your brand new Volvee freeze-framing you mid-air in eternal glee while some 80s pop song starts to play and the credits roll well by golly I think we got ourselves a blockbuster.
🎵 "Let's hear it for the boy!!!" 🎵

Live your life for the characters in the movie, not for, never for, the critics.
And we're all critics.
