'Neath The Sunshine
What do grandmasters do with their idle time?
Their down time.
Their let their hair down time.
They probably meditate a lot.
Contemplate.
Ever tinkering on their grandmastery.
Do you remember the old show, The People's.Court?
It was Judge Judy and all them before all them.
Judge Wapner.
Judge Wapner was an old curmudgeon.
I am partial to them.
I remember one episode years ago where someone was on the show and kept calling Judge Wapner, "Your Majesty," instead of Your Honor.
"Yes, your majesty."
"No, I'm not royalty, call me your honor."
"I'm sorry your majesty, I mean, your honor!"
He kept doing it. Slipping up.
Which infuriated Judge Wapner at first, then he just found it funny.
Anger, then delight.
Which is, as we all know, the sweet spot.
I suppose I could find the clip online somewhere but I don't want to.
Because I know I'll have remembered a detail wrong or got the whole show wrong.
So I'll leave it in my brain.
As a childhood memory.
Hope all you mothers had a good day yesterday.Â
And all days, while we're counting.
And we're always counting.
