I'm Going to Duel Him Lefthanded
There was this famous experiment.
Maybe not so famous.
But listen.
I gotta point to make.
And it ain't on the top of your head!
It was an experiment in some class in some school somewhere in the world.
And the class was divided into two groups.
Each group had the same goal:
To make the best pot or something like that.
Details don't matter.
The first group had to spend all their time on making one pot.
The perfect pot.
The second had to make a pot a day for a month or however long it went.
And guess who won?
Second group.
The results showed that by iterating over and over again, you got a better pot.
More reps.
More bites.
More chances.
Sure, you make a lot of bad pots, but you get the best ones out of the batch, too.
And this is part of the problem with how we do things growing up.
Perfection is rewarded.
And usually for just one try.
You don't get to do-over papers and exams (typically).
Short-term memorization is the standard.
Regurgitate.
Spew.
100%.
This is a horrible way to get great at something.
Other than in regurgitation.
And spewing.
You'll fit right in here.
Of course.
When I was learning muay thai, it was obvious my front leg (left) was weak.
Now I had have monster hands.
Knees that would make my partner quit holding pads mid-round.
But front leg.
Was weak.
WEAK!
So I over-trained it.
Over-emphasized it.
It was a mission.
Learned to love that dang leg.
Turning weakness into something else.
Left side?
Strong side!
Something fun.
Soon, after many, many, reps, it became a strength.
A favorite.
Because it took work.
Because it was weak.
Because it cost time.
Because it got better.
Because I earned it.
If I only kicked once, it would suck.Â
And it did.
No matter how much I planned the kick.
Of course, a left kick to the liver now would still put someone in the ER.
Me.
So iterating for me has changed.
The reps have changed.
Fingers.
My thumbs are going to be huge.
Musings.
Ideas.
But the model hasn't.
And it's one I learned late.
Like a lot of things.
Wissmart is often delayed.
But never denied.
God bless you all.
Most of you.
Work on your weaknesses.
Making failing fun.
And remember, you are the pot.
You get to make yourself every single day.
Every other day.
A week maybe.
The point is, you're the pot.
Have fun, left kicks.
