If It Costs Dollars, Make Sense
I got a rule in my house.
Well, several but I'm here to talk about one.
One that you could use.
You should use.
Now, I'm not saying this rule with change your life.
In fact, it probably won't.
It'll just make you feel better.
Give you a sense of control.
And I suppose that's life-changing.
So the rule is simple:Â
For every cent spent, some sense comes back.
It's become a game for me.
For every dollar you spend, expect at least some of it to come back to you.
For our purposes today, I want to talk about it in credit, but it should apply everywhere.
Any time you spend your money, make sure you get a nibble back.
It ain't a full bite, now, but it's something.
1%.
1.5%.
2%.
3%.
4%.
5%.
Yeah, you can get five on it on some sheet.
Most of you would do fine on just one card 2% back on everything.
I'm a bit of a nut so I maximize each category I can.
But it makes me happy to know things I would buy anyway (this is an important metric) gets me a little of it back.
Even debit cards are offering this stuff. But I like the intermediary of a credit card.
Remember, a little goes a long way.
And we always go long.
