I Was Inverted
Mental models are an interesting thing.
Basically, it's like a mini-rulebook on how to think and therefore how to act.
One of note is to invert.
Always invert.
Made famous by Charlie Munger (RIP), you basically start at the end result of what you do not want and work backwards.
Want a good life?
How do you guarantee that you will live a bad one?
Then, do everything you can to avoid the things you listed as living a bad life.
Poor Charlie used to always say, "Where will I pass?"
And then joke that he just would never go to that location, and thus, live forever.
It's an interesting way to think.
Want to be fit?
How do you get fat?
Want to be rich?
How do you stay poor?
Want to be successful?
How do you lose at life?
Sometimes, narrowing it down helps.
What to do based on what not to do.
Next time you're stuck, think about it from a different point of view.
Upside down.
Decide what you do not want.
And give it the finger.
